Customizable Return Address Labels
Let's start off by saying, there is no right or wrong way to create your own return address labels. So many styles, shapes, and types out there to choose from, right? It's a beautiful thing, and besides that, we have an inert responsibility to coordinate. Whatever the event or holiday it is, or the gist of the subject inside the envelope matters!

History of US Postal Service labeling
And with that said, let's very briefly stroll down the US historical lane to see when and how did they come about. The 1800's, the US postal service requires them for the first time. The 1900s, printers begin making pre-printed labels for the general public. In 1901, elaborate illustrations are feature designs on them, and so by 1929, printing companies were regularly making and selling them, often for business use. One thing to note, is the US postal service wanted ease, so structure had to be important, legibly as well as automation. The faster they could read it, the faster processing it through their services it would be. So, it boils down to this, legibility.

What to use a label for?
Personal or business use is the most common ones. Branding your business is common whether it be for self employment or corporate use, and you want every mailing sent out with the same brand your company is adhering to. The main focus is to be remembered, readable, and reliable. Quality matters, along with the style. Personal uses are a lot more liberal, but still remaining stylish and comprehensive. You can be fun, modern, elegant and as I said before, it's about the gist of the subject inside the envelope that matters and should tie in with the return address label. I can remember my mom always getting free self addressed labels from charities in the mail. They would have holiday themes for cards, but the labels matched the cards almost identically. This gave the hint to the bearer what was inside. And now that I create address labels, it is a fun way to design for customers wanting to match that same idea. Baby shower themes for baby shower invitations, birthday party with birthday invitations, down to the age! Granted, I keep wondering, do they keep the extra leftovers? Of course!
Ideas for leftover labels
At this point, I hope you've already picked your theme and picked a label design that matches your event perfectly. But if you haven't, and you just want labels to use for paying your bills with, no need to stress, they don't look at your label as much as the post office will. So just a reminder to carefully create your label and proofread it. This is still a good way to use your leftover labels. Another way is to label your personal items at work, so a borrower can bring it back to you, or more commonly is your dish in the one refrigerator for everyone. You can also use them for filing in raffle tickets, rebates, or non-business forms. Potluck dinners is always a good idea to use those labels! Even with a smaller family, because they'll know who to call and say you left it at their house.
